Robert's Lasso3D
- How to make a 3D popup image from a single 2D image -
How to go from this...
to this. In 14 easy steps

3D Glasses required to view this image properly (Red-Blue)
Note: You can reduced tearing by making the selections more exact in your adjustments
Lasso3D is forgiving and will produce acceptable results with inexact selections
How it's done...
(A Pixel Depth setting of 1 is to be used throughout)
Step 1:
Start by selecting the closest part of the image, this is the initial depth (D1 = depth level 1).
The second man from the left is closest
In this step, and in each that follow lasso the chosen area,
make whatever adjustments you feal are needed, and concluded with Make then Composit
Step 2:
Select the part of the book that is at the same depth level as the man just worked on (D1).
Step 3:
Select the area that is the next level of depth (D2 = depth level 2).
As you can see, it includes previous selections, along with the other parts of the image that are at the same depth
Step 4:
The instructors hand is at the same depth as the previous selections (D2).
lasso it, make and then committed the changes.
Notice how the selection of the hand is extended and tapered down the arm just a bit.
The reason for this is to blend the two depth levels (hand and arm)
Step 5:
Move to the next depth (D3) and include previous selections in the selected area.
Step 6:
Move to the next depth (D4) and include the previous selctions
Step 7:
Move to the next depth (D5). At this depth All of the people will be selected
Step 8:
Move to the next depth (D6) and capture a little of rooms structure in the selection
At this point there are 7 depths D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, and the un-altered part of the image is D7.
On to detailing...
Step 9:
Make the man leaning over the body seem like he is leaning over the body,
change the depth level of his head and part of his upper torso
Step 10:
The instructors face looks too flat, so give it depth by selecting around the major contour inside his head
This includes a part of the scalp and the sides of the face around the cheek bones down to the middle of his chin
Step 11:
Do the same for this on-looker
Step 12:
And this one
Step 13:
And this one too
This alteration actually adds one more level of depth to the final image.
Step 14:
The cadaver looks too flat, select the portion of the body that is closest to bring out
That's it
This shows how easy it is to make a 3D popup from any 2D image.
